Dr. Lee Jane Huffman, D.V.M., D.A.V.D.C. became a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College (D.A.V.D.C) in April 2005. D.A.V.D.C. is a specialty recognition held by a little over 100 veterinarians worldwide who have proven adeptness in advanced veterinary mouth, jaw, tooth, and tooth attachment apparatus procedures, including but not limited to periodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, restoratives/cosmetic dentistry, oral medicine, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, dental and skull radiographic imaging. Services which Dr. Huffman currently offers at Pet Emergency Clinics and Specialty Hospital in Ventura, California (2301 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura, CA, 805-764-6335, www.petemergencyclinic.com) include but are not limited to the following: periodontics (eg root planing-subgingival curettage-perioceutic placement, advanced flaps, splinting teeth, gingivectomy-gingivoplasty, guided tissue regeneration) endodontics (eg standard or surgical root canals, vital pulp therapy, near exposure treatments, apexogenesis/apexification) oral surgery (eg oral fracture repair, maxillectomy/mandibulectomy, tumor removal, exodontia) restoratives/cosmetic dentistry (eg filling in of defects and/or removal of discolourations, prosthodontics (eg full metal crowns)) orthodontics (eg in-house or laboratory appliances to restore comfortable and functional bites) oral medicine (eg medical management of inflammatory, (auto)immune, infectious, and infiltrative (benign or malignant masses) oral problems) juvenile dentistry (eg interceptive orthodontics, radiographs to determine the presence or absence of permanent teeth) dental radiographic interpretation and consultations case consultations Before joining the Pet Emergency Clinics and Specialty Hospital in July 2008 as a veterinary dentist and emergency clinician, Dr. Huffman performed veterinary dental specialty procedures and general practice in Simi Valley, California. Prior to returning to California (Dr. Huffman had spent a year with Southern California Veterinary Dental Specialties in San Diego, CA while awaiting her board exams after completing her veterinary dentistry residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison), Dr. Huffman practiced veterinary dentistry and emergency close to her family in her "home and native land" (Canada eh!). After graduation from the Ontario Veterinary College (Guelph, Ontario, Canada) in 1999 with the Katherine Elizabeth Long DVM Memorial Scholarship for the graduating student (voted by classmates) who demonstrates the highest standard of skill, knowledge and compassion for the animals under their care, Dr. Huffman honed her small animal veterinary skills during two intensive small animal internships (University of Missouri-Columbia, Metroplex Veterinary Center, Irving, TX) and a year of general and emergency veterinary practice in the greater Toronto area before starting her veterinary dental specialty training.
